Six Month Accredited Consultation Project

Fifteen days training and support delivered locally over a six month period to a team of up to twenty five people; the team are trained in the P.A. method and apply it simultaneously to a full consultation in their area. This means that the team end up as qualified P.A. facilitators and produce a full report on the process and findings from the completed consultation. Accredited through the Open College Network each participant can expect to gain a GCSE equivalent in Introduction to P.A. and an A' level equivalent in Facilitating P.A., in addition two of the team can gain a second A' level equivalent in Co-ordinating P.A.

The teams are usually made up of local agency and authority workers and members of the community. The programme is delivered locally and comprises of six days training in the design of the project over three weeks followed by two days training each month for the next four months and one day preparing the report. The costs of this project are usually shared between different agencies and services each of whom have participants on the course.

The programme is fun, informal and innovative and includes; the P.A. philosophy, communication skills, project management techniques and tools, data analysis, creative design, team working, public speaking and presentation skills, facilitation and consultation skills, personal development, organisational skills and confidence building and each person learns how to conduct a full community consultation using Participatory Appraisal methods.

There are no formal academic requirements but participants do need to be literate and numerate. There are no exams, qualification is based on course attendance, forty hours of direct community consultation (over the six months) the keeping of a P.A. diary to record learning and consultation (which can be kept as a reference manual for future projects) and the evaluation of the trainer. The diaries are assessed by internal and external verifiers of the Open College Network.

Four-day Participatory Appraisal Workshop

Four active and fun packed days based on a condensed version of the six month course. Covering the background and philosophy of Participatory Appraisal, development of P.A. and project management tools, team building, health and safety, developing a key to monitor those consulted, facilitating groups and how to plan a consultation programme. This programme includes dealing with the public, recording and analysing data and some practice mapping.

Delivered locally in your area to a group of up to twenty five participants who could be from the same service or multiple agencies and community members. This would provide enough information to enable the group to complete a level one and two consultation and analyse and report on the data using P.A. tools. This workshop is often delivered as two, two-day sessions a week apart, but can be delivered as four consecutive days, it's up to you.

Three-day Participatory Appraisal Workshop

Packed three day programme which gives a good overview of P.A. methods including how to create level one and two P.A. tools, data collection, recording and analysis, project management tools, team building, facilitating groups, health and safety and more. It provides enough information to run a small localised consultation of the first two levels. One-Day Introduction to Participatory Appraisal

An informative and engaging one day event giving an overview on how P.A. works; details on the principles and methods, data collection and analysis, evaluation of consultation methods and creating non-leading tools. A great way to understand how to use P.A. within the community... enough to get the flavour but additional days required to conduct your own consultation process. This course is for up to twenty five participants and can be attended by people from many different organisations at the same time.

P.A. Evaluation Tools Workshop

A one day course for organisations that need to assess their effectiveness with groups and users. Creating alternative methods to establish what people think about and want from your service by learning the design and development of Participatory Appraisal tools and a Key to monitor feedback. Great fun and very useful.

Quality Management and Staff Engagement Programme

An eight day programme delivered locally as two days per month for four months. Particularly useful for organisations wanting to undertake a Quality Management process or who are due for inspection. This programme works best with a team of up to twenty five people made up of people from all levels of the organisation representing different aspects of the service and ideally should include some service users. Using P.A. tools the team work together to review delivery and design new more efficient systems, putting the user at the core of the action plan for change. The course is delivered over four months to allow time to implement new aspects and get feedback on the changes and review their practicality. Ideal for a company or department undertaking a review or wanting to fully engage their staff in performance improvement.

Quality Management Two Day Workshop

Using P.A. tools learn how to engage your staff and service users in improving the delivery and effectiveness of your service. Develop innovative and creative ways of finding out how to make improvements by using inclusive and non-leading P.A. methods with robust data analysis to aid interpretation of your findings.
